PERMANENT EYEBROW TATTOO VS. MICROBLADING

If you’re anything like me, you feel naked if you leave the house without your eyebrows filled in. Eyebrows have been called the frames of our face and are the internet’s latest obsession. Good brows have the power to change the course of an entire day!

TRADITIONAL EYEBROW TATTOOS AND MICROBLADING

Gone are the days you had to settle for sparse, scarred, or the over-plucked brows of the 90’s. Traditional eyebrow tattoos and Microblading offer a variety of options to get your brows summer time ready, but how do you choose?

What’s The Difference?

Here’s what you need to know. Though both options are a form of tattoos, it’s important to note the differences. The older and somewhat simpler version is a traditional eyebrow tattoo; the newer more intricate, manual version is Microblading.

PERMANENT EYEBROW TATTOOS

This process involves a continuous filling of pigment into the skin to create a solid shape. If you’re looking for a permanent fix, this option could be your winner. But, don’t expect natural looking results. Traditional tattoo machines implant pigment deeper into the dermis, which then increases the chance of the pigment expanding and becoming unnatural in its appearance. Some traditional tattoo artists will do individual strokes with their tattoo gun, but the color will still expand and blur much more since the pigment is placed so deep. This will also cause the color of your tattooed brows to change. Black-brown based colors tend to fade to a blue-green and medium-light brown based colors tend to fade to a red-orange. Moderate pain is expected.

MICROBLADING BENEFITS

Microblading offers a semi-permanent fix with results lasting up to three years, though one-two years is the average. A touch-up every eight-twelve months will keep the color and lines of your brows crisp, keeping your costs down. This makes it easy to change your eyebrow shape with shifting trends unlike its permanent counterpart. This process is often called eyebrow embroidery due to its highly customizable results. A good technician will meticulously draw each hair stroke onto the skin using a specialized precision hand tool with a series of small needles. The goal is to follow the direction and length of your existing hairs. Microblading ink will not smudge and is unlikely to spread much under the skin, unlike its traditional counterpart. This makes it ideal for creating full, natural brows. Your Microblading appointment should always include a follow-up appointment 4-6 weeks after your procedure. Pain is known to be minimal.

Due to the many benefits of Microblading, it is often chosen over Traditional Eyebrow Tattoos.

MICROBLADING AND PERMANENT MAKE-UP

Both options are still firmly planted in the tattoo family and should be heeded with research and precaution. Let it be known that to receive a Microblading or Permanent Make-up certificate, only 2-7 days of training are required. For best results, look for a technician who has a tenured background as an esthetician at a respected spa in your area. Microblading and Permanent Make-up are considered an art form, and the canvas is your face. A tenured esthetician will have vast knowledge of your skins needs and what eyebrow shape will look best with your face structure.
